TRS Operating Funds

A General Fund: Two Options

  • Where It’s Needed Most supports immediate and ongoing needs of our Temple while allowing for the greatest flexibility in fulfilling our mission
  • Open Doors Appeal keeps our sacred community a place for all our families to call home, regardless of financial constraints.

A House of Gathering – Beit Knesset

  • Camp Rodef Shalom Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to children of members for our day camp
  • Jacknow Meditation and Tribute Garden provides for the maintenance of the garden
  • Men of Temple Rodef Shalom (Brotherhood) supports Men of TRS (Brotherhood) programs
  • Women of Temple Rodef Shalom (Sisterhood) supports Women of TRS (Sisterhood) programs
  • Youth Activities Fund subsidizes youth programs
  • Art Fund

A House of Learning – Beit Midrash

  • Adult Education Fund supports adult education programs
  • Archives Fund helps preserve Temple records and documents
  • David Iver Schwartz Scholarship Fund
  • Library Fund purchases books and materials for the Temple library
  • Early Childhood Center School Fund provides equipment, training, and special activities
  • Religious School Fund provides equipment, training, and scholarships

A House of Prayer – Beit T’filah

  • High Holy Day Fund underwrites our High Holy Day services
  • Life Cycle Fund supports congregational life cycle events, including Confirmation and Adult B’nai Mitzvah (Rodef Chochma)
  • Prayer Book Fund purchases Shabbat and Holiday prayer books
  • Silver Fund for Torah Repair and Restoration will to be used for expenses related to maintaining, refurbishing and dressing our expanding – and aging – collection of Torahs

Caring for Each Other – G’milut Hasadim

  • Accessibility and Inclusion Fund supports full inclusion for all members of our community
  • Caring Community Fund helps member in crisis, including burial assistance for indigent members
  • Kestenbaum Comfort Fund provides for the comfort and caring of our members

Clergy Discretionary Funds

These funds accept contributions in appreciation and honor of the clergy to be used at their discretion to support Temple families in need and programs.

  • Cultural Fund supports cultural programs
  • Music and Volunteer Choir Fund supports adult and children’s volunteer choirs

Repairing Our World – Tikkun Olam

  • Ohel Ya'acov Community Housing Fund supports affordable housing projects and ending homelessness in our community
  • Refugee Fund supports a refugee family in our community
  • Social Action Fund supports social service agencies and social action projects, including community meal preparation, Feed ‘Em Fridays, Winter Mitzvah Day, and Good Deeds Day
  • Temple Tzedakah Fund assists individuals in need within the Temple and wider community

World Jewry – Klal Yisrael

  • Israel Connection Fund supports programs on and connections to Israel

TRS Endowed Funds – Dor L’Dor

The Temple Rodef Shalom Endowment is composed of five “baskets” whose aim is to preserve the community we have built together and strengthen the congregation for the future.

Morashah: The Legacy Society of Temple Rodef Shalom is for members who have expressed an intention to provide a bequest to Temple Rodef Shalom.

General Endowment 

The General Endowment is an unrestricted, long-term resource for supporting the Temple’s mission and programs.

Capital Endowment Fund

The Capital Endowment is used to maintain, enhance and expand our facilities.
Named and designated fund:

Bunny’s Place Maintenance Endowment Fund maintains and enhances our outdoor gathering and play space

Tzedakah Endowment

  • Stillman Family Maimonides Fund for Self-Reliance provides economic assistance to members for career training and business development so they can lead lives of independence and self-reliance
  • Tzedakah Endowment Fund supports our Temple Tzedakah Fund and Social Action Fund.

Congregational Life Endowment

Congregational Life Endowment is used to educate and enhance Jewish values, culture and knowledge in the lives of our congregants; for support of cultural programming, adult education and congregational engagement.
Named and designated funds, in alphabetical order:

  • The Rabbi Laszlo Berkowits Remembrance and Understanding Project Endowment Fund is formed from the merger of two previous Endowment Funds: the Rabbi Berkowits Educational Endowment Fund and the Simon Family Fund for Jewish Living.  This Fund will honor Rabbi Berkowits’ life story by underwriting programming that may include rebuking antisemitism, sharing lessons of the Shoah, and ongoing dialogue with our non-Jewish neighbors.
  • Carol Davidson Fund for the Advancement of Women supports programs, workshops or other activities that support, teach or advance women’s causes
  • Jewish Literacy Endowment Fund in honor of Rabbi Stephanie Bernstein
  • Rabbi Berkowits Educational Endowment Fund supports an annual weekend Scholar-in-Residence (Please note that this fund is now part of the Rabbi Berkowits Remembrance and Understanding Project Endowment Fund.)
  • Simon Family Fund for Jewish Living supports programs that bring Judaism and its values into the daily lives of congregants  (Please note that this fund is now part of the Rabbi Berkowits Remembrance and Understanding Project Endowment Fund.)
  • Leveen-Sher Endowment Fund for Social Action

Spiritual, Worship & Clergy Endowment Funds

  • Harvey and Barbara Levin Sanctuary Furnishings Endowment Fund for religious artifacts for the sanctuary

Youth Engagement Endowment

The Youth Engagement Endowment is used to increase opportunities for youth to engage with Judaism: supporting youth programs, education, scholarships, travel, and faculty professional development.

Named and designated funds, in alphabetical order:

  • Alexis Agin Memorial Fund perpetuates a love of reading in children by supporting our children’s library
  • Caren Pomeroy Nursery School Endowment Fund provides scholarships for Nursery School students
  • Fund for Youth and Jewish Identity Honoring Rabbi Amy M. Schwartzman is used to strengthen Jewish identity among Temple youth, established in honor of Rabbi Amy Schwartzman’s 20th anniversary
  • Jennifer Blalock Memorial Scholarship Fund gives scholarships for Jewish camps and youth programs
  • Karen Simpson Teacher Development Fund supports Temple Rodef Shalom Nursery School teacher training and education
  • Rabbi Marcus Burstein Israel Endowment Fund assists teenagers in traveling to Israel
  • TRS Early Childhood Speech and Language Endowment Fund pays for professional intervention regarding speech and articulation issues
