D'var Torah

As our dark nights become longer, we have the opportunity to increase the light in the coming days as we acknowledge the miracle of Chanukah. We celebrate light, miracles, and the strength and resilience of the Jewish people. The Maccabees finding and using those last drops of oil remind us that even in moments of fear and darkness, we can find hope and light.

Our people need hope and light these days, now more than ever. It is so easy to turn on the news or open our phones and find doom and gloom, instances of antisemitism, and struggles throughout our world. I’m not suggesting we completely look away from problems or be in denial about the challenges around us, but I do believe we can give ourselves permission to take a deep breath and bask in the glow of the candles for a few moments. As we gaze at them, we can reflect on the tiny daily miracles we each get to experience in our lives. 

I hope that each of you will find a way to embrace the light in these coming days. May they be days of rest, gathering with family, and finding miracles.
